Costa Rica 2020
Monteverde
We flew into Liberia and took a taxi to our hotel and left the next day for the town of Monteverde high in the cloud forest at 4,662 feet above sea level. We visited 2 butterfly houses, the cloud forest and explored a couple reserves before heading to Osa Peninsula and then to Montezuma.

Sloth welcome at the airport!

Monkey business high above.

Cloud Forest walk near Monteverde.

Looking up into a giant lacy tree.

We did a 2 hour walk through the upper level of the Monteverde rainforest canopy and crossed six bridges, the longest spanning 984 feet.

Can you see the tiny beak in this creative nest?

Lucky us….we had a rare sighting of a Kestrel, with enough light to see his gorgeous colors.

The beautiful Golden Beetle.

Looking down from the bridge into the dense jungle floor.

View from the B&B property where we stayed.

Crazy spikes!

Out in front of our Eco Lodge where families gathered at the end of the day to play.

Montezuma
After staying on the Osa Peninsula for a few days we took our fun boat ride back and drove to Montezuma, which is a small beach village known for its bohemian vibe and artistic residents.

Landing at Corcovado National Park and our B&B.

Where we stayed.

To get to the entrance to our B&B you had to park a block or so away and walk the beach to this entrance….a real adventure with luggage and sun hats.

A favorite coffee and breakfast stop a few miles away.

We luckily were there for the local Saturday market day.

We met lots of local expats and found a bakery stand that was the highlight!

The main street of Montezuma….wide enough for 1 car on a 2 lane road!

The view from our front door.

Our rustic place nestled amongst the jungle.

We found an authentic Italian restaurant high in the mountains above the town, and an Italian woman greeted us and said they were in the mist of making homemade gorgonzola ravioli! No surprise that we stayed!

Downtown scene.

Our simple laid back place.

At night we’d hear almonds falling on our tin roof and in the early morning Holler monkeys close by waking us up! With everything open the sounds of the jungle sang.

Our favorite bakery where she told us she is visited daily by monkeys that sneak in and have figured out their favorite goodies to nab…so it’s a constant vigil.

Drove to the West side to check out the beaches and had to cross a stream that we barely got across….another story!

We told people this is what our car looked like after driving on 4-wheel car roads in a regular car!

The stamens after the flower has lost it’s petals….still beautiful!

Loved our outside sink and mirror.

Another flower after its petals fell.
Osa Peninsula
After leaving Monteverde we drove to the town of Sierpe and took a 2 hour boat ride to the Osa Peninsula, located in Southwestern Costa Rica. Our boat let us off at the Corcovado National Park where we hiked up 500’ of steps to our B&B…phew!

A one night stop at a B&B before heading to Sierpe and the Peninsula.

Our B&B with pretty gardens and a pool.

Boarding our boat to head to the Osa Peninsula with a vendor selling fruit.

Our transportation for 2 hours to the Peninsula, which was a fun, fast, full of spray ride!

Cows on the beach!

Arriving at the Refuge and a 500’ climb up to our B&B!

Looking out the window of our B&B.

Our rustic spot above the sea.

The end of the day from the dining room of the resort.

Our palm cabana.

The beach below our B&B with no one but us.

We crossed this at low tide and came back a few hours later, and wondered if we’d make it across and if there might be alligators….we made it and no alligators!

Nice spot to dine.

Our 500’ drop to the beach from our B&B.

This wasn’t from a store…it was actually on the beach and I left it. : )

Our last night there with another beautiful sunset, and glow worms lighting up in the grass that night.
